The angel waits…

Abu Umamah (رضي الله عنه ) narrated the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said,

“The companion (Angel) on the left lifts his pen for six hours for the Muslim slave that errs or sins. If this slave repents and seeks Allah’s forgiveness for that error or sin, the Angel doesn’t record it. And if the slave doesn’t ask Allah for forgiveness, the Angel records it once”

Collected by At-Tabarani in Kabir (7667), Abu Na’eem in Hilya (6/124), Al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ib (6788). Shaykh Al-Albani graded this hadeeth as being Hasan in Saheehah (1209)

Allaah mentions in the Qur’aan:

“Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.

And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: “Now I repent;” nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment.” {Surat An-Nisaa:17-18}

Ibn Kathir’s exegis on these ayaat are as follows:

Allah states that He accepts repentance of the servant who commits an error in ignorance and then repents, even just before he sees the angel who captures the soul, before his soul reaches his throat. Mujahid and others said, “Every person who disobeys Allah by mistake, or intentionally is ignorant, until he refrains from the sin.” Qatadah said that Abu Al-`Aliyah narrated that the Companions of the Messenger of Allah used to say, “Every sin that the servant commits, he commits out of ignorance.” `Abdur-Razzaq narrated that, Ma`mar said that Qatadah said that, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah agreed that every sin that is committed by intention or otherwise, is committed in ignorance.” Ibn Jurayj said, “Abdullah bin Kathir narrated to me that Mujahid said, `Every person who disobeys Allah (even willfully), is ignorant while committing the act of disobedience.”’ Ibn Jurayj said, “`Ata’ bin Abi Rabah told me something similar.” Abu Salih said that Ibn `Abbas commented, “It is because of one’s ignorance that he commits the error.” `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about the Ayah,

﴿ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ﴾

(and repent soon (afterwards)), “Until just before he (or she) looks at the angel of death.” Ad-Dahhak said, “Every thing before death is `soon ﴿afterwards﴾.”’ Al-Hasan Al-Basri said about the Ayah,

﴿ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ﴾

(and repent soon afterwards), “Just before his last breath leaves his throat.” `Ikrimah said, “All of this life is `soon ﴿afterwards﴾.”’ Imam Ahmad recorded that Ibn `Umar said that the Messenger said,

«إِنَّ اللهَ يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِمَالَمْ يُغَرْغِر»

(Allah accepts the repentance of the servant as long as the soul does not reach the throat.) This Hadith was also collected by At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, and At-Tirmidhi said, “Hasan Gharib”. By mistake, Ibn Majah mentioned that this Hadith was narrated through `Abdullah bin `Amr. However, what is correct is that `Abdullah bin `Umar bin Al-Khattab was the narrator. Allah said,

﴿فَأُوْلَـئِكَ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلِيماً حَكِيماً﴾

(It is they to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.) Surely, when hope in continued living diminishes, the angel of death comes forth and the soul reaches the throat, approaches the chest and arrives at the state where it is being gradually pulled out, then there is no accepted repentance, nor a way out of that certain end. Hence Allah’s statements,

﴿وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَـتِ حَتَّى إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّى تُبْتُ الاٌّنَ﴾

(And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: “Now I repent,”)

{End quote}

What should be noted here is the vast mercy of Allaah. The fact that He decreed that the Angel that records the sin waits for the slave to repent shows how the slave is given an opportunity to redeem himself through quick repentance after his sin so that he will not be faced with it on the Day of Judgement. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Allaah, the Exalted, and Glorious said: ‘A slave committed a sin and he said: O Allaah, forgive my sin,’ and Allaah said: ‘My slave committed a sin and then he realized that he has a Rabb Who forgives the sins and punishes for the sin.’ He then again committed a sin and said: ‘My Rabb, forgive my sin,’ and Allaah said: ‘My slave committed a sin and then realized that he has a Rabb Who forgives his sin and punishes for the sin.’ He again committed a sin and said: ‘My Rabb, forgive my sin,’ and Allaah said: ‘My slave has committed a sin and then realized that he has a Rabb Who forgives the sin or takes (him) to account for sin. I have granted forgiveness to my slave. Let him do whatever he likes”. {Agreed upon}

The statement ‘Let him do whatever he likes’ relates to the slave that sins and truly repents following it, with all the conditions of repentance. Meaning if this was his case then he could do as he wishes because his condition is such that he will always seek forgiveness and therefore be forgiven.

SubhanAllaah! May Allaah forgive us and our families and the Muslimoon. May His Salaah and Salaam be upon His final Messenger.


Suffering from Depression? Feeling Down? Sad all the Time? ’Uthaimeen Explains the Solution

“Indeed the Legislation orders us to keep away from everything which causes regret … Allaah سبحانه said:

“Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Satan, in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits.” [Mujaadilah 58:10]

And Allaah تعالى only told us this so that we keep away from it, it was not merely a piece of information telling us that the Devil wants to cause us grief, no, what is meant is that we keep away from everything which causes grief. And for this reason the Prophet ﷺ said, “When there are three people, two should not converse together to the exclusion of the third.” [Agreed upon]

So everything which brings about sadness in a person is forbidden …

The Prophet ﷺ ordered a person who saw a dream that he disliked to dry-spit to his left three times and seek Allaah’s Refuge from its evil and the evil of the Devil and to then turn to the other side [to sleep on] and not to tell anyone about it and to perform ablution and pray—all of this so that a person can drive away all of these things [grief etc.] …

And that is why the Companions said that we used to see dreams and become ill because of them, but when the Prophet of Allaah ﷺ told us thishadith … i.e., they relaxed and no worry remained.

So the Legislator wants us to avoid everything which brings about worry, grief, and sadness, and for this reason Allaah تعالى said:

“So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj.” [Baqarah 2:197]

Because disputes make a person defend himself and his thoughts change for the sake of the argumentation, and he will became worried and it will distract him from worship.

The point is always keep in mind the fact that Allaah عزوجل wants you to be happy all the time, far from grief.

And in reality a person has three situations: a past situation, a present and a future one. A person forgets the past and the worry that it had because it and what it contained is over, if it was a calamity, then say:

اللهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

“O Allaah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it,” [Muslim] and forget about it.

And for this reason He forbade wailing over the dead, why? Because it renews the grief and reminds one of it.

As for the future, its knowledge is with Allaah عزوجل, rely on Allaah and when issues come to you then seek their solution, but those things which the Legislator has ordered you to prepare for then prepare for them.

It is the present time which it is possible for you to deal with, try to keep away from everything that causes worry, grief and sadness so that you can always be relaxed and have an open breast, dedicating yourself to Allaah and worshipping Him and [dedicating yourself] to your worldly affairs and those connected to the Hereafter.

When you try this, you will relax.

As for tiring yourself over what has passed or worrying about the future in a manner the legislation has not allowed, then know that [if you do so] you will become exhausted and lose out on much good.”

Better off than the Atheist

“The patients in the mental house are better off than the atheists. The former lost the ability to reason whereas the latter gave it away.”

I read this on the Facebook page of and thought I would expand on the statement

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The former is only held accountable for the times when he was sane, as in the statement of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم:

“The pen has been lifted from three; for the sleeping person until he awakens, for the boy until he becomes  a young man and for the mentally insane until he regains sanity.” {At-Tirmithi, Sunan an-Nasa’i, Sunan Ibn Majah}

They will not be recompensed for actions committed while they do not possess their sanity.

The latter, however, is held accountable since he used his “intelligence” to counter not only his fitrah (innate/natural disposition) but everything that proves to the intellect the existence of Allaah.

The former is pitied by all; the Muslim and non-Muslim alike see his condition and do not consider it something to be envied. The latter, however, will draw in those weak in eemaan and those that are ignorant to make his life choice seem enviable as opposed to pitied. The Shayatin (devils) from the Jinn and the Ins (humankind) will make alluring the life of “zero recompense before the Creator” because “you only live once, so enjoy it”. They will act freely, under the illusion that the All-Hearer does not hear them, the All-Seer does not see them, and that He, the Most Just won’t judge them. They will believe this lie until the inevitable happens and they meet their Lord on the Day, in which there is no doubt. It is only the true believers, those whom Allaah has fortified with firmness, that see the true condition of the atheist and so they look at them with disdain and pity.

The insanity of the patient is clear whereas the insanity of the Atheist is hidden. The former is alienated from society; his time is spent away from the eyes of people. The latter is being welcomed by society under the pretence of “scientific truth and discovery”. He uses his lack of reasoning and his stubbornness in it to throw his theories at the unsuspecting public and unfortunately, the gullible will eat it all up. He will in turn earn not only his own sin, but the sin of everyone that follows him, as comes in the authentic hadith:

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Every caller who invites people to misguidance and is followed, will have a burden of sin equal to that of those who follow him, without that detracting from their burden in the slightest. And every caller who invites people to true guidance and is followed, will have a reward equal to that of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.'” {Graded authentic by Al-Albani}

In conclusion, the statement above holds utter truth. The patient in the mental house is better off than the atheist. He is better off in this world before the people of intellect and he is better off on the Day of Judgement before His Lord. If he spent his entire life insane and the message of truth did not reach him, he will be tested on the Day of Judgement, as is narrated in many ahadith. If he passes then he will attain Paradise and if he fails and falls in to the Fire, he will only be recompensed for this sole act of disbelief and nothing of his actions in this world. The atheist, however, will be recompensed for his disbelief in this world, for the sins he accumulated, for the sins of those he misguided along with him and he will not find besides Allaah any helper. Just as he forgot Allaah in this world, so will he be forgotten in the Fire in the Hereafter.

“[ Allah ] will say, “Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten.” {Surat Taha: 126}

May Allaah protect us, our loved ones and all the Muslimeen. May His Salaah and Salaam be upon the final Messenger, his family, his companions and all those that follow them in righteousness until the Day of Resurrection.

Changing the name of an evil does not render it permissible, but this is how Shaitaan wants to beautify things for us.

Ibn Muhairiz narrated from a man among the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “People among my Ummah will drink Khamr (intoxicant), calling it by another name.” [Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (5658) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See also Sunan Abu Dawood (3688, 3689) and Sunan Ibn Maajah (3384, 3385, and 4020)]

What an age are we living in…

1. Where KHAMR is called DRINK (booze, beer, spirit etc.)!

2. Where GAMBLING is called (a game of) CHANCE (luck, fortune)!

3. Where SINGING is called ART!

4. Where a BRIBE is called a GIFT!

5. Where FREE-MIXING is called CIVILIZING!

6. Where TABARRUJ (wanton display) is called ELEGANCE!

7. Where NUDITY is called LIBERTY!


9. Where a DAYYOOTH (a man with no protective jealousy for his wife) is called MODERNITY!

10. Where HYPOCRISY is called POLITICS!

We seek Allaah’s refuge from this evil and repent to Him for our sins.
