“Has the time not come for those who have believed, that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allaah and what has come down of the truth?…” [Surat al-Hadid: 16]
Should the skin not shiver and the heart not tremble (with khushoo’) when the Ever-Living, the Majestic, the Most High is mentioned?
“Allaah has sent down the Best Statement; a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver there from of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allaah…” [Surat Az-Zumar: 23]
“The believers are only those who, when Allaah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord do they rely- the ones who establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them. Those are the believers truly. For them are degrees [of position] with their Lord, forgiveness and noble provision” [Surat Al-Anfal: 2-4]
Has the time not come for the eyes to weep at what the hands have put forth for tomorrow?
Should we not take account of ourselves as we have been ordered to?
“O you who believe! Fear Allaah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allaah. Verily Allaah is All-Aware of what you do” [Surat Al-Hashr:18]
The leader of the believers, Umar ibn al-Khattaab (رضي الله عنه) said:
“Bring yourselves to account before you are brought to account, and weigh your deeds before they are weighed” [Mentioned by at-Tirmithi]
“The believer is firm in bringing himself to account for (the sake of Allaah). Indeed lighter is the reckoning of a person who brings himself to account in the world; and indeed difficult is the reckoning on the Day of Judgement for a people who did not bring themselves to account (in the world).” [Attributed to Hasan, its meaning is saheeh]
Do we forget that the Day is fast approaching?
“Indeed, they see it [as] distant,
But We see it [as] near.” [Surat al-Ma’arij:6-7]
The Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:
“Paradise is closer to any one of you than your shoe laces, as is the Hellfire.” [Al Bukhari]
The fourth righteous Khalifah, ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said:
“Verily, this worldly life is departing and the hereafter is approaching and each of them has its children. So be children of the hereafter, not children of this world, for today there are (opportunities to do) deeds and there is no reckoning, but tomorrow there will be reckoning and no deeds.” [Attributed to ‘Ali. Al Bukhari]
May Allaah make our hearts humbly submissive to Him only, and may His Salaah and Salaam be on the Messenger.
